I know it’s been 3 months plus since my trip to Shanghai. Decided to get my lazy body off the bed to do some blogging and show some random photos which I took during this trip. (Might not be in order of dates)
Cheng Huang Miao

We had one of our breakfast at the famous “Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao”. There’s 4 storeys in the building to cater to different types of customers. The first being a takeaway outlet where you buy and eat on the streets, 2nd was something like a fastfood outlet so you eat and go off and that’s the one with the longest q normally. We went to the 3rd level. The queuing time wasn’t too bad. Seems like the higher you go, the pricer the items were and more variety. Didn’t venture upwards to the last level though. Perhaps the next time ba.
Only the 2 “longs” of xiao long baos in the foregrd belong to our table as we were actually sharing a table with another elderly couple who were also Singaporeans. I must say it’s really easy to identify ourselves with one other from the way we speak and behave..haha. We couldn’t possibly polish off 4 ”longs” of xlb ourselves honestly. Had a pretty good conversation with them and got to know that they were going to Wuxi which happened to be in the news for the overwhelming amount of algae in the water. I counted the number of folds on 1 xlb and there were exactly 18. Counted once in Ding Tai Feng too but I think there’s more than 18 there. Is 18 the minimum? Anyway it was an enjoyable breakfast:) The soup in the xlb was definitely sweeter than those in Singapore and I personally prefer our version of it. But we went back there on our 2nd last day to eat again..wahaha. I’m drinking from the super big bao on our 2nd visit below..Hee

Nanjing Road Pesdestrian Mall

This is a whole stretch of shopping malls and departmental stores along Nanjing Road. Lots of shops selling local food and shopping malls but the fashion is not to my style so I din get anything there. Look at the sheer number of people shopping there and this is just the beginning of the 1-2km pavement. There’s 1.3 billion people in China leh!!
We got our tickets for the side trips from the little tourist booths though.
Wasn’t a good experience but well at least we got to know the culture of how things work there.
Pearl on the Bund

A great candid shot by Lijuan on Lingzhi when she was eating the Fruit Hulu. Super sweet but it was good especially on the kiwi and tomato. Can’t blame me.. I can have a ultra sweet tooth if the craving ever strikes(normally once a month:S).

Haha.. This photo turned out loop-sided lah.. so I rotated it. Most of the photos here are not photo shopped by the way except to change image size and adding of my blogsite address.
You can see that some of the pics are are not well-taken(blur, not clear, out of focus. blah blah blah). Well lousy camera and lousy photographer..so please dun expect much..hahah.
Typical Streetlife
Not bad huh, I got almost all forms of transportation captured here.
Bicycles, Scooters, Buses, Taxis, Normal Cars.

A street full of Pepsi adverts

Water Village aka Shui Xiang – Zhouzhuang

This is one of the best picture which I like out of this trip. I even set it as my wallpaer cos it made me feel like I was still on the waterboat when I looked at it. Zhouzhuang is a very commercialised water village now.
There were so many tourists when we were there.
A better place to go would be Xi Tang which Lijuan also recommended.
We asked the auntie who was rowing the boat if she could sing for us but she wanted us to pay additional charges. Can’t blame them as they rely on tourism industry to survive.
Haha.. the funny thing was when we heard the boat rower in front of us singing, we asked our auntie to speed up so that we could hear her sing for free.

A funny thing happened on this trip. There was this guy who was in our tour group as well and he was so excited to know that both of us were Singaporeans at the end of the trip. He didn’t know where we came from cos we din really talk to him much. Anyway after the trip, we met up with Lijuan and Kelvin for dinner and we actually received weird smses from him!! It was obviously the tour guide who gave him our number because he was the only one who had it.(We had to exchange contacts at the ticketing booth when we made our booking for the trip so that we could meet up. It was Lijuan’s extra China number for visitors actually so thank goodness)
He called us at first for our Singapore contact numbers but we didn’t give it to him cos he was jus too weird about it. We sort of said to sms him our email as a form of courtesy and ended the call quick. Next came the smses. His first message was like “Can we be friends?” Something like that abd when we did not reply him, he came back with ” I’m just a lonely guy looking for more friends and mean no harm. Do you look down on me? Am I right?” All of us were just like flabbergusted and laughing out. I mean come on, a guy with common sense wouldn’t send out such messages to gals isn’t it? He sent a series of smses but we ignored him. He actually had the guts to call us early in the next morning!! I was about to pick up the phone to scold him when the prepaid SIM card ran out of value. Lucky for him cos I was pretty irritated by then.
Hangzhou, Nanjing etc

The silk factories use this machine to get the silk out of the cocoons.

The trip to Hangzhou wasn’t too bad. Nice scenery and cool weather. Nanjing was just boring, boring boring and we had spent 4-5 freaking hours on the lok-kok train just to get there. (I would say a total disaster cos it was raining. The only place worth was to the Sun Yet Sen Memorial where his body was laid)
On the train it was 3 person to a mini bench. I would just say it was too close for comfort(non at all!!). But it did open up my eyes to how life was there so I’m pretty ok with it. The gap between the middle class and the poor is definitely wide so don’t even talk about the gap between the rich and poor.
Food and Miscellaneous Pics

They’re not spicy at all…….
The next one is my favourite cos it was sweet and warm… something different.
The ones at DTF here suxs.

Look at the San Cham Ba that Kel is holding!! It’s a full pot there!!!

Tried out the KFC there. Not much diff. They seem to sell egg-tarts everywhere.

Smile!!!

Finally, a pretty pic of 3 ladys and 2 unborn babies in Shanghai!!!!! ( This was taken in XinTianDi which is like Clarke Quay – full of foreigners and tourists with lots of pubs, ktvs and restaurants)

Some other things which I didn’t write about was our tailor made clothes and shopping bargains… I’m too tired now.. Will write about that in my next trip!!
