Meeting the bottleneck
Posted by lefthandside on November 25, 2007
Repeating the same information, cracking the same jokes, going to the same places everyday even with different people can really be challenging. I try to find different ways to present my information each time so that I won’t get tired of saying the same things all the time. But a colleague mentioned to me,”Remember that most of your audience will be hearing what you are saying for the first time.” It was a soundful piece of advice to me cos I had never had this kind of job before. Always place your audience before you. No matter how tired or sick you are, they should always be able to see your smile.
It’s not a stressful job but at the same time, it comes with its own set of challenges as well. It’s really an intensive course of think on your feet because we might be asked the most unexpected questions and we need to think ahead and plan what to talk next, look around to know what’s happening around us and also assess the situation in crowded areas.
At the end of it, you get the thank yous and some even shake hands with you. You walk away hoping they have enjoyed themselves, pondering if you had given the necessary information and thinking when would be your turn to go again. When that time comes, you would probably have forgotten what had happened and you start afresh once more, flashing that set of pearl-white teeth to the new audience. It’s a never-ending cycle until the day ends and you realised you actually enjoyed the whole process. What does that mean?

Wedding of the Year!!
Posted by lefthandside on November 19, 2007

Another wedding!! But this was so much more fun cos all the jie meis were very onz. The wedding car was a vintage model. So many people stopped to gawk at them yesterday outside the hotel, whipping out hp cameras to take photos but not knowing that the couple had just braved through a storm in Hougang literally before arriving in style. Really happy for the bride from the bottom of my heart cos I know she has come a long way in this relationship. The groom had better cherish her cos she’s really a good catch!!
Anyway we ended the night late and me and XY stayed over at the hotel in the extra free room given to the couple. Also thanks to their compliementary voucher, we had a scrumptous breakfast in the room… Yummy…

Here’s a look at my french manicure after her bridal shower on Saturday:) The colour on the tips of my nails has already started to give way. Although they gave great service by providing complimentary homemade cakes, fruit platter and drinks for everyone, I felt that their skills were mediocre cos the edges of my nail tips weren’t very well-painted. But really got to thank the bride and groom for their generosity:)

Dear newly-wedded couple,
Have a blisssful wedding, sweet honeymoon and be happy forever!!

Learning korean
Posted by lefthandside on November 17, 2007
Korean language is interesting to learn but it’s difficult to pick up as well. Learning to read is easy but the tough part comes in when you have to memorise the vocabulary, learn how to use the correct grammar and use the proper forms of ending when speaking to pple from different age-groups.
I can only say my command of this language is only at 20%. I do hope that I can get a chance to live in Korea someday so that I may put what I have learnt to practice. I fell in love with the country in 2005 when I went to Seoul for my graduation vacation. Maybe I will go back for another round of holiday again.

A horrible and terrible dream – The underworld
Posted by lefthandside on November 15, 2007
Has anyone of you dreamt of ghosts before? I’m not talking about horrible looking ghosts here. They look pretty normal like any other human being except that somehow, I know that they are not alive in my dreams.
I had a dream of the underworld just now. Part of the dream had got something chasing me but I don’t remember much on that. However, in the later part of it, I was burning incense paper, and overseeing a road in total darkness. I saw a woman riding on a trishaw passing by in clothings from the olden days. No face seen cos I only remember seeing her from the back(I’m glad it was this way).
So who was I burning incense for? Someone close who is actually alive so u can imagine how sad I was in the dream. I kept calling out how much I missed her and I just awoke on that last cry. All of my energy was zapped away by this dream despite sleeping for the past 3 hours. Shivers run down my spine when I was walking to the toilet and even when I am sitting down in front of the computer, typing this entry now. The images are so vivid and deeply embedded in my mind that I think I will need more time to erase them, especially of the trishaw lady and dark street.
This is not the first time and will not be the last. When will they end?

At a loss for words
Posted by lefthandside on November 3, 2007
Learnt many things. Heard many stories and have realised how critical people can be. People come from all walks of life and they expect us to provide fast and accurate information because we are considered as the experts. Reality is cruel. These are valuable lessons which I will remember.
Have you ever thought that the little ”feedback” that you give ”regularly” in life might cause people to lose their jobs? Or is that while we try to protect our rice-bowls, we have to let other heads roll? Were things really as bad as you thought? There’s a fine line between being fussy/picky and having high expectations. Set your expectations right and make them known to people. Being picky is just like firing your maid just because dinner comes with potato salad and not fries when you feel like eating fries that day BUT SHE KNOWS NOTHING about it.
I used to believe that as long as you put your best into what you do, your efforts will be recognised but now this seems quite impossible. To all those people out there, please remember that you will reap what you sow.
I must be strong cos everything is just my imagination running away with me.
