Don’t come any closer.

Just read my thoughts.

Boring day

Posted by lefthandside on January 15, 2008

I’ve finished reading my new storybook.  In fact, I completed it within 12 hours of my purchase. You can imagine how bored I was right?  But at least I won’t need to coop myself in the house anymore. I actually went jogging last Wed morning but I felt very very unfit at the end of it cos I couldn’t even keep my pace for 15 mins!!!! It was terrible.  Perhaps it has got to do with my lifestyle now. It’s too sedentary.  I need to introduce exercise back into my life gradually. My health has never been in such a bad state before:(

Went out to Orc for a bit of shopping yesterday since I hadn’t been in action for the past 2 weeks. It was a joy cos there wasn’t a crowd!  But i ended up feeling unwell so I took a cab back.  That’s how unhealthy I am now!  On the way back the sky whipped up a storm.  I was cursing myself for not taking the train back cos visibility of the road was only 100m max.  The taxi uncle asked me what I could see ahead and I told him only the lights…hahah.  Then we stopped at a traffic junction and something ( a branch/stone I think) plonked down on the roof of the cab.  I was praying hard that the trees on the sides of the road wouldn’t come crashing down cos they were swaying to and fro dangerously. The wind was super duper strong. The uncle seemed more worried that the branch might leave a dent on his car though!!!  I never got to see what the object was but when it fell off, there was a huge thud.  Must have been pretty big.  Thankfully the storm ceased to a slight drizzle when we got on ECP.  But near Fort Rd, visibility dipped again.  This time round, we saw a man walking on the right side of the 1st lane! It could be a tragedy if just one of the cars did not see him at all in this weather.  This is why u should really keep ur eyes open when u’re driving and not to tailgate!

Haiz, the weather’s awfully wet these few days.  I hope it clears in the next few weeks:S

Book Reading: Not Without My Sister

Posted by lefthandside on January 13, 2008

This is a book written by 3 sisters, narrating their experiences in a cult called Children of God after their “escape”.  It’s a relatively easy book to read and it brings you through the ordeals they went through as a child to a young adult, though I felt that they could have dived deeper into their emotions.

I’m already 1/3 into the book despite starting to read it last night. Did a search on Wikipedia and googled on this cult as I was wondering if they ever came to Singapore. Seems like it has changed its name to The Family and now do not cordon the abuse which took place in the 1970s-1980s. Well, wiki is editable by anyone so I will only take it with a pinch of salt.  Surprisingly I found their publications on our country in the exfamily.org(the name says it all) which lists the publications and letters from their leader to members. They were obviously mindless rantings blinded by their “love” for their “religion”.

The reason why I did a search was because the book triggered my memory. I remember in the late 80s to mid 90s, there were quite a number of religious pple,  standing in the streets, trying to convert/introduce by-passers to Christianity and get them to go to church.  I remember being approached when I was young and I dreaded to go pass them.  They would try to befriend u, get ur phone number and asked if u were free to go to church or something like that. I think I also remember my sisters getting calls from them with lots of cajoling. They were friendly but also overly zealous in their attempts to gain more church members. That’s why I wanted to know if this event in my memory had any connection with the group mentioned in the book. This kind of occurences died down soon. Perhaps someone had taken steps to clamp it because it was creating a negative impression and backlashon the religion. Or simply for some other reason.  In one of the publications which I found written in 1998, it was mentioned that there were indeed attempts to penetrate our society but they were rejected(and probably dealt with a serious blow on their egos, I guess). While it is anyone’s guess whether these 2 events were related, I’m glad that these people ”failed”.

OK, I’m not going to dwell further into this topic cos it might be controversial, so I’ll just go back to finishing the book for now:)

Chicken Pox

Posted by lefthandside on January 3, 2008

Santa gave me a great Xmas present this year.  I discovered I had a water blister on my wrist on Boxing day and my first thought was CHICKEN POX!!! Further confirmed it the next day with the doc after more appeared on my back.  The following few days were torturous. They started to appear all over my torso and I was getting the colds and fevers on and off as my body fought against the virus. Thank goodness for the anti-histamines which helped me to overcome the itchiness.  There were a few on my face too but they were still bearable. But to see my whole back filled with blisters was totally devastating.  The ones on the scalp were the worst cos I couldn’t lie down comfortably.  Sleep was at a max of 4-5 hours, not forgetting that I had to take the anti-viral medi at a 4h interval too.

Porridge and mee sua with pork was all I took until Sunday and I couldn’t stand it anymore.  I sneaked in a piece of bread coated with milo and condensed milk into my diet. That was my supper for the last 3 days and it was what kept me going. In the meantime, I’ve been drinking water chestnut drink because it’s a cooling and supposed to help the blisters dry up.   I’m also supposed to avoid eggs, chicken, cucumber, nuts, dark soya sauce, papaya for 1 month to let the scars heal nicely.  That means I won’t be able to eat a lot of the new year goodies!!!!! BOOHOO!!! And I won’t be able to make pineapple tarts too cos everyone else in the family is not coming till CNY.

It’s so much better these few days because I’m waiting for the spots  to dry and drop off.  The anti-viral medication had helped to prevent more spots from appearing after 3-4 days I guess. My right hand and both legs are the least hit areas.  The intial spots were BIG and full of water. Now, they are still big but full of a pus like liquid. Those that appeared at the later stage were smaller, though no less itchy.

One of the first scars has appeared and it’s on my collarbone. I had burst it when I first saw it as I didn’t think it would really be chicken box so that’s the price I have to pay now. I’m hoping to have only a few scars on the back. Hopefully I’ll be able to go out by mid of next week when all the scabs would have formed and dropped.

I WANNA GO OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
