A “I don’t know what to write” post on Internet

With the rising popularity of powerful Internet search engines, many of us have turned to these search sites to do our research on products, news, entertainment and many more.  There are many people out there who have also published stuff on the Internet on all sorts of things from money-making schemes to hot gossips about celebrities to exercise regimes.  Plenty of bloggers are also around to voice their opinions online.  The matter is how accurate are these articles and to what extent should we believe in them?  People are just so willing to share information, expertise and experience over the Internet because they have never been able to do so previously.

Very often, we hang around in online forums to interact with other people to discuss issues, news and the latest happenings(gossips too:P) around us.  Do you realise that what we read in forums is normally a blown-up version of whatever that has happened?   How many people are there in the forums? 1000 ? 2000? They are not representative of the world you know?  You don’t own the world just because you can say almost anything you want.  Neither does anyone owe you anything.  You see all sorts of “identities” through their posts and they feel that they have a right to post whatever they like.  Be responsible for what you write and don’t believe all that has been posted on the Web.  There are loads and loads of crap and trolls who post rubbish out there.  Be wise and learn to sift out the information you need.   I do multiple searches on a particular info I need.  So why am I writing this post?  Cos I find that there is a severe lack of netiquette nowadays and many are ignorant of the perils of the Internet.

Forum clothes sellers

I had ben trying to sell off some of my impulsive buys in one of the well-known forums here for the last 3 weeks.  No one has taken up the bite though but the posts of other sellers has totally been an eye-opener for me.  How could people sell their 2nd hand clothes there?  I’m not talking about those which are worn once or twice and still in good condition cos I think that’s still quite ok as long as it looks new and some pple do take care of clothes(that’s another separate story). Instead I’m referring to those which looked totally disgusting, over-washed and yellowed!  It’s just yucky.  Furthermore, the clothes were crumpled in the pictures. Come on, if you are really sincere about selling, at least put in some effort to iron them right?  It’s not even fantastic looking to begin with.

Personally I wouldn’t want to buy any of such clothes and I don’t understand those who would.  No offence.  Even if they have been washed you wouldn’t know what other clothes they were washed with.  Maybe underwear?!  If i got such clothes I rather sell them to the karang guni man or donate to charity.  Or maybe even use them as wiping cloths if they are cottony and absorbent enough.  Really cannot fathom such people.  It’s clothes you know. Something that you wear and perspire in so it probably has your scent.  For the amount of money, I could buy a new top off This Fashion.  It’s not some va va vroom shop but hey they have some good stuff if you dig deep enough.

But well I guess this is not the weirdest thing sold online.  I heard that some sell their used underwear on auction sites and they’ve at least worn it for a day or something like that.  Japan has a street selling such stuff too( they sell almost anything to do with sex there).  It’s totally hentai(変態 – perverted in Japanese).  Can you imagine those people who buy ur underwear and sniffing it away just like glue sniffers?  Then they get high?! GROSS lor!!!  Reminds me of the peeping tom incident in hostel last time written in another post….. Okok.. I shall go think about something less yucky instead…

Another thing I realised is that many people are claiming to sell clothes from Korea/Taiwan in the forums.  The pictures posted are normally fantastic looking and the fabric looks good. Actually, when the goods arrive, you will find that the clothes are of poor workmanship and fabric is lousy.  I think many of these clothes are actually made in factories from China and exported to Korea/Taiwan.  Their cuttings are also wrong so it won’t fit nicely at all.  I’ve seen many people regretting their buys and reposting the actual pictures taken from their homes together with the original one to resell.  The difference is huge.  I rather spend a few more dollars and but from reputable sources such as Victoria’s Secret.

It’s hard to get things going if you have no support…. They only assume the things that I SHOULD DO..when it’s what I REALLY WANT TO DO that matters….

Cheap and good food

With heat on rising food prices recently, there’s a lot of price comparisons going on for hawker food. Everyone’s been complaining about the pain on their pockets. It’s not surprising that some stalls are making use of this time to raise prices but I would say a majority of them are absorbing the cost too, especially those from the heartlands.  I just went to the market and bought a big packet of Chinese mee siam for $2.  The portion was pretty huge and I couldn’t even finish it alone even though it’s super duper delicious.  The Mee Rubus at this stall is also very nice!!  I would say it’s way too much if prices are adjusted by $0.50 just due to the inflation because the actual increase is only probably less than $0.10-$0.20 if you were to divide the costs equally on the number of customers each stall would get.  An average stall can sell about 150-200 servings( a very low figure liao) each day from dawn till night so he would earn an extra of $75 per day if he raises price by $0.50 for each serving.  The raw food prices are not so inflated to this extent. Their profit is most likely $1 for each serving.  Do some maths and you will know how much restaurants are earning! Yet they pay so low for their serving crew..

The Great Cockroach Fight

The stupid damn cockroach flew towards me.. super big somemore!! Thankfully my reflex was fast to swing it off my face and got up from the floor. Dunno where it came from man..Anyway it flew into the storeroom and I went to the kitchen to arm myself with Shieldtox. I sprayed some at the door and placed the insecticide in the kitchen again, this time nearer to me of course. Thought it would end up hiding in the store at first but moments later, it flew out from the room towards the kitchen. I was watching carefully of course. Kaoz, din even have a chance to spray at it. So I took a section of Classifieds as my shield, ran into the kitchen to get the insecticide again and at the same time to see where the roach had flown to. This time I managed to spray at it. It somehow dropped from the cabinet to the top of the fridge and I quickly ran back to the living room. Couldn’t see where it was now but I could hear it trying to flap its wings. It wasn’t able to fly anymore and was soon scuttling around on the kitchen floor, half-fainted and probably disoriented. Used this chance to finish it off. It finally flipped and laid in one corner, struggling to get off its back. I waited to see how long it would last before heaving the one last breathe. After 10-15 mins the legs were still moving!! Incredulous! And this was despite repeated sprays at it to hasten the process. Finally I picked up the charcoal tongs and chuck it away. I don’t have so much time to waste man.

I don’t believe this

I managed to finish 3.5 books in a span of 1.5 days? Crap right? But I really don’t like to start a book and then put it down halfway to do something else, unless I fell asleep or had to eat. So after Would You? I went on to Shopaholic  & Sister, after which was The Undomestic Goddess. Each book took only about 4 hours plus and I didn’t do a speedread.  Or was it? On top of that I was watching TV as I read too, not forgetting..ever the multi-tasker.  I dunno lah..hahah After that I managed to complete the “difficult to flip a page” book And Then We Came To The End.  Crap lah crap lah.. now I got to go and find new things to do or new books to read.  Should I take that exam??aiyo.. I am ever the big time procrastinator.  Shit shit shit shit!

S POP

I was watching S POP last night.  All these few months, I had been faithfully following each episode of this show every Monday at 8pm on Channel U nearly without fail.  It was actually nice to be able to hear all the nice songs from the various local singers.  But last night, I felt that the concert was a flop and was really disappointed by the arrangements made by the organisers.
The concert got to a pretty good start with the 2 Lee singing teachers playing on the piano and singing along with the backgrd choir.  Then came the disaster of the night when they introduced the host. Eric Moo nearly ruined the whole show with his lackluster hosting and saying wrong things to the guests.  I think QYF would have done better if she ran the whole show herself.  She practically had to try to “da yuan chang” everytime he spoke.  They really should not have asked him to do the hosting lah.  He may be good in singing but that doesn’t mean he is good at other things.  On top of that, the show was supposed to be the contest for the final 2 contenders of SPOP but apparently the attention given to them was probably only 20-30 mins out of the whole 3.5hrs?!  Apart from the time for showcasing their songs, they only came out again to ”pull” votes for a few times.  I think their MTVs(unless I missed it?) weren’t even shown?  It became more like a JJ mini concert.  His performance on a platform(which was really only a box) singing and being surrounded by a ”sea” of pple holding pompoms was absolutely ridiculous.   And the award he got?! Makes me wanna laugh man.  If anything, Sun Yan Zi should be the one to be awarded because she would be the local singer who had gathered the most number of awards. It’s patronising to that extent. I think the winner was quite pitiful also.. only got called in for the announcement like 10 mins b4 the show ended? Then it was over fast.  Even the design of the award was the same as JJ’s. But the show had its warm moments too, especially when Lee Zong Sheng presented Tanya with a guitar which seemed really a surprise for her.

Anyway, all in all, the intention of S POP was good but the execution of the concert could have been much much better, especially with the selection of the male host.

Super pissed off.

Foul mood

Don’t you just hate it when you’re alone standing at the traffic light, waiting for the green man when someone comes along and press that button again?!  Did that person think I was an idiot standing there, waiting for the green man to come on its own?  Obviously I had pressed the button!!!!  It’s not as if pressing the button a second or third time would make a difference.  I think these people must have some kind of hidden urge of pressing the traffic light buttons whenever they see one. It’s just so silly. Moreover the person was just a few steps behind.  I dunno why, but that idiot’s action totally irked me bigtime today. She wasn’t in any kind of hurry, considering her slow footsteps and I had overtaken her before that.

Was at the library today to get some books.  I think I have fallen in love with thrillers and crime books again. I’m reading a book by Peter Robinson - Friend of the Devil.  It’s quite well written and I will write more about it later once I’ve finished it.   Anyway, I realised there’s many strange personalities who hang out at the library.  I dunno why, but you can see a lot of people with problems there.  To me, the library’s considered quite a ”sacred” place…hahah.. a place to borrow/read books, do projects and study. But no, aside from the usual crowd, I saw something else. Quite a few “uncles” were there ogling at women or sitting on the sofas taking a nap.  There’s also a few with the odd personalities and dressing. You could tell from their dazed looks and behaviour.  They weren’t harassing anyone, just walking around aimlessly from one end of the library to another.  No, I’m not discriminating against such people if that’s what you’re thinking.  It’s just that there wasn’t such a group in the past.  I’m just disturbed by such a sight.

I need a new phone

I miss my N6630!! My current SE K800i which I bought just last year isn’t a very good phone.  First, the keypad is hard to press.  Secondly the joystick is getting spoilt. It’s so frustrating just to sms cos I can’t get to the correct name and it’s driving me crazy.  The 6630 was chunky but at least the keypad was so good to use even with my long nails.  I hardly see any phone nowadays with such a design of a pop-up keypad(E61 isn’t exactly considered a conventional phone).  It was so sturdy that I could chuck it anywhere.

I’ll not get a phone with joystick anymore.  I’m considering to get the Samsung G800 cos I saw some fantastic pics being posted on the forum with its 5MP camera but I also wanna test out the feel of the keypad first. That’s the most important feature for me aside from the camera and battery life.

I won’t consider SE phones for a long time to come either.  Maybe I’ll take a look at Nokia’s N82 too. There isn’t any sleek clam shell phones in the market either.

Ok let me list down what I want in my next phone.

1. Good and easy to press keypad

2. Battery life which won’t die on me after 2-3 days

3. 5MP camera

4. Candybar or slider

5. Something which can take knocks

6. 3.5G

I dun need those fanciful MP3 or radio functions since I’ve a separate device for that.
